Courses and programmes

We offer a variety of programmes for students of Russian as a Foreign Language at different levels.

Our main programmes are the general Russian course, the conversational Russian course and the intensive course.

General Russian Course.

The full Russian language programme that will take you from Beginner to Advanced consists of 3 levels (192 academic hours each).

Throughout the course, the student will develop speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar skills. Classes consist of two sessions of three academic hours each per week.

The course is offered for all students from absolute beginners to advanced students. It consists of three main levels of 192 academic hours each. At each level, students receive information about the culture, history, geography, economics and political situation of Russia.

Level One

Beginners to Pre -Intermediate
192 academic hours

This level includes four sub-levels of 48 academic hours each. It incorporates all the necessary aspects needed to achieve basic knowledge of Russian, including useful, fundamental vocabulary, understanding and reading Cyrillic script, pronunciation practice, the study of basic grammatical structures and functional language needed for basic communication purposes.

At the end of this stage, students acquiring a reasonable comprehension and communicative competence in Russian are able to progress to the Intermediate level where they can master their spoken, interaction skills.

The basic book "Поехали" is estimated for approximately 8 months. It contains dialogs, texts, different exercises and grammar material.

During 1st four months we study the following topics:

  • Getting acquainted. Introductions (how Russians address one another; when we use вы and ты; forms of greeting and farewell; full and shortened Russian names, first, last and patronymic names; introducing yourself, your friend or colleague)
  • Family (talking about yourself, your family; asking others about themselves)
  • Professions (describing your profession; explaining where you work or study; asking others about their professions)
  • Weather & climate (seasons & months)
  • My day (talking about your typical day; asking other people about the routine of their day)
  • In the store (types of stores in Russia; how to purchase goods in Russian stores; asking the coast of goods; learning about Russian souvenirs)
  • Nationality. Language (talking about your nationality; describing where you used to live and where you live now; naming your native language; explaining that you speak and understand a little Russian; asking others what languages they speak)
  • House and flat (explaining where you live: district, street, address; what rooms and furniture you have in your flat)
  • Holidays & vacations activities (describing where you can go during holidays; what can you do depending on season; asking one another about their last holidays and plans for the next ones)
  • Russian culture (visiting museums, theaters, cinemas; talking about Russian television and how to read TV program)

Next two months we study the following topics:

  • Getting around the city (types of transportation in Russia; orientation in the city; asking the location of a street, hotel, store; giving directions; talking about everyday way to work; types of vehicle do you like or dislike; how you do prefer to travel; where do you usually go when you are on holidays)
  • Hotel (types of hotels, booking and reservation of the room; staying in a hotel)
  • Russian kitchen and restaurants (getting acquainted with national Russian dishes; how to read and write recipes; reading menu in a restaurant; ordering food and talking to a waiter)

During last two months we learn:

  • Congratulations and going to someone's house (gift-giving traditions; giving toasts; celebrating birthday and other important events and holidays)
  • Using the phone (how Russian typically talk on a phone; answering the phone; asking for a person you are calling; what to say if that person in out)
  • Biography (telling about the place you studied; your working experience; who you wanted to become in your childhood)

Level Two

Intermediate to Upper-Intermediate
192 academic hours

At this stage, attention is devoted to increasing students' range and complexity of Russian lexis and practicing functional language used in a variety of situations. Students also master basic grammatical structures and lexis, acquiring experience in expressing their ideas more freely in spoken and written form.

Level Three

Advanced
192 academic hours

In the final stage of this Russian language course, emphasis is placed on developing fluency in speech, studying a wide range of lexis, practicing and refining existing grammatical knowledge and studying more complex grammatical structures.

At the end of this level, students are given practice in and become comfortable with reading authentic Russian literary texts.

Intensive Russian Course

Intensive Russian language courses at BKC- Globus are aimed at those who cannot stay for long in Moscow or have little time in order to do assimilate as much Russian as possible. It's a unique chance to study the Russian language in a short period of time. We provide intensive courses for you to learn some grammar points and develop conversational abilities. Maximum results in the minimum time.

This course offers 60 ac. hours per two weeks. From complete beginner ("zero" level) to being able to communicate in the main everyday situation - "Meeting", "Transport", "Visits", "At a Stop", "Relaxation", "Sport" and many others.

This level provides you with the elementary language of Russian prepositions and the tense and aspect systems of the elementary level. Our approach is based on activating the vocabulary that is commonly used in typical everyday situations.

As a rule, intensive Russian classes take place from Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 11.15 pm (intensive courses) and from 9 am to 2 p.

Conversational Russian Course

Conversational Russian Course is aimed at those students, who already have at least pre-intermediate knowledge of Russian grammar and vocabulary. During the classes the students discuss different topics, learn new expressions, develop their speaking and listening skills.
